Artist Bio
The Filament Theatre Ensemble was officially founded in 2007 after three years of collaboration on varied projects at Northwestern University and beyond. The founding members are all alumni of Northwestern and include Julie Ritchey, Rebecca King, Christian Libonati and others. In addition to their backgrounds in playwrighting, acting and directing, Filament's members have strong teaching resumes in some of Chicagoland's best theatre companies.
Artist Statement
The Filament Theatre Ensemble was founded on one core belief: that individual empowerment is born through a strong connection with others. By creating original, ensemble-based theater, we are able to muse, venture, and seek beyond our own spheres of comfort and discover what ‘impossible things’ we are truly capable of. By putting stories that feature child protagonists on stage, and then taking that performance to schools, we hope to empower and connect with the child in everyone - students and teachers alike.
Educational Philosophy
Our aesthetic as a company directly correlates with our educational philosophy. Knowing that it is the natural tendency of children to re-enact stories when they are playing, we strive to create a theatrical experience that lends itself to future play. Through playing, children rehearse for life, and we aim to tell stories that will allow children to explore new situations through the eyes of others.
