Artist Statement

My objective as a theatre artist is to explore the human condition by infusing each moment of stage time with a spark of life.  As a director, performer, or audience member, I strive for the same goal: to encourage, speak, or hear an event that will never happen the same way again.  By unlocking imaginations and organic impulses, each story told and each scene played can occur for the first time over and over again.

By using theatre games, improvisation, and story theatre techniques, I have gained the dramatic tools and vocabulary needed to transform individual actors into an ensemble of performers connected through agreement, risk, commitment, and structure.  The process allows each actor to free and yet focus their instincts, to strengthen his or her individual voice in relation to the community of speakers on stage and to gain access to his or her inner talents. This is the excitement of theatre: the simple pleasure of pure connection, to be “in” the drama, to be “in the moment” of a play, to freely enact each wave of transformation, and to unveil what it is to be human by risking to be human.
