The Puppet Place
Artist Discipline: Theatre
Artist Bio
The Puppet Place has been thrilling audiences both young and old for the past 23 years with its very special style of puppetry. The company uses a veriety of puppetry styles including hand, rod, string and shadow to create original adaptations of classic tales that promote positive virtues and attitudes.
Artist Statement
I believe that art in all its myriad forms is essential to a rich and full life. Each individual expresses an aesthetic unique to that person, an aesthetic that can be understood by other people since we all share in a common creative nature simply by being human. Puppetry is one of my chosen art forms because with puppetry I get to realize my creativity in both the visual and performing arts through the creation of props, sets, costumes, scripts and puppets.
Educational Philosophy
The arts have a special role to play in educational curriculums. Artistic activities that are enjoyable both relax and sharpen the mind making it more receptive to all the other subjects scheduled in the school day. I also believe that children have a special vision, a closer relationship with our emotional nature. They can create whole worlds of play with things like toys an even the boxes the toys came. Children are also master story makers and actors able to breathe life into their play activities. This makes them naturals to create puppets and perform with them.
The Puppet Place's Urban Gateways touring performances include:

The Puppet Place: Peter Rabbit
