Dominique Enriquez

Artist Statement

Playing primarily with text as image, Dominique Enriquez works in paint, paper and found object to explore the connections between history, memory, and the present self.  Dominique invites viewers to decode, interpret, and unravel the acknowledged truths and recollections found in her work using excerpts of private writings, photos and human hair in each piece.

Dominique received her B.A. in Art Education/Studio Art from San Diego State University.  She works as a teaching artist and arts administrator, partnering with Urban Gateways, Marwen, CAPE, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

Educational Philosophy

I believe in the intrinsic value of the arts within the learning environment.  Using my own artistic practice as a guide, I encourage students, teachers, and other learners to explore and experiment with their own curiosity and imagination by using fundamentals in color and composition and by looking closely at both common and unconventional materials.
