Motown is a style of soul music popularized in the late 1960s by a roster of artists signed to Motown Records. Distinctive characteristics include the use of the tambourine along with a drum kit, rhythm and blues instrumentation, and a "call and response" singing style originating in gospel music. Join Motown Alive as they perform the music from legendary artists in this genre including the Jackson 5, Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight. Students also receive a historical overview of the period and music that opened the door for black artists.
